Do You Sell Paint for Tiles?

  • Updated

While Nippon Paint's core range of interior and exterior paints is formulated for masonry, metal, and wood surfaces, we do carry primer products that make it possible to paint over ceramic tile surfaces — without the need for hacking or removal.

Painting Over Tiles: What You Need

Nippon Paint Multi-Surface Primer

The Multi-Surface Primer is a water-based primer specially designed to provide strong adhesion over a wide range of difficult-to-adhere surfaces, including glazed tiles, glass, plastic, laminate, and metal. It works for both interior and exterior surfaces.

One important note: dense, smooth surfaces such as glazed tiles should be mechanically sanded prior to application to ensure the primer bonds properly. Once the primer is applied and dry, a water-based topcoat can be applied over it.

Nippon Paint Tile Primer

The Tile Primer is a two-component, water-thinned epoxy primer barrier coating designed specifically for surfaces like glazed tiles, glazed brickwork, and smooth concrete floors. It creates a strong epoxy adhesion layer that bonds the surface to the topcoat, delivering a flawless and long-lasting finish.

Key features include fungus and mould resistance, low odour, and compatibility with both single-pack and two-pack topcoats.

The Right Approach for Tile Surfaces

Whether you use Multi-Surface Primer or Tile Primer, the process follows the same principle: a dedicated primer is always required before applying any topcoat over tiles. Do not apply paint directly to ceramic or glazed tile surfaces without priming first — adhesion will fail.

If you're unsure which primer is right for your specific tile surface or project, speak to a consultant at your nearest Nippon Paint dealer for personalised guidance.
